CRAWFORD, Texas (AP) - President Bush congratulated the space shuttle Discovery team on Tuesday, saying their 14-day mission "regains the confidence of the American people" after the Columbia tragedy 2 1/2 years ago.
Bush opened a news conference on his Texas ranch by noting Discovery's return to Earth earlier in the day. It was the first shuttle re-entry since Columbia disintegrated.
Bush singled out Commander Eileen Collins and pilot James Kelly for "a fantastic job" in getting the shuttle and its crew safely home.
