LOS ALAMOS, N.M. (AP) - A Los Alamos National Laboratory worker was placed on leave pending an investigation after two other employees inhaled corrosive acid fumes but managers weren't notified until weeks later.
The nuclear weapons lab also is investigating a case in which an employee failed to follow procedures and allowed low levels of a radioactive material to contaminate locations he visited in two other states.
The two workers who inhaled acid fumes had been working in June with a mixture of concentrated nitric and hydrochloric acids that is used in etching and other procedures, the lab said in a statement Tuesday.
