NEW DELHI (AP) - An executive claiming to be an adviser to Volkswagen AG has been charged with allegedly cheating a southern Indian state government of 117 million rupees ($2.4 million) for setting up a VW plant, a news report said Friday.
The Central Bureau of Investigation arrested Ashok Jain from Gurgaon, a suburb of New Delhi where offices of numerous multinational companies are located, on Thursday and seized his bank accounts, Press Trust of India news agency said.
The CBI later flew Jain to Hyderabad, the capital of Andhra Pradesh state, where the car plant was to be set up for further investigation into the case, PTI said. Other details were not immediately available.
