FRANKFURT, Germany (AP) - The dollar slipped Friday against the euro and other currencies after U.S. trade data showed a widening deficit.

The euro bought $1.2443 in late New York trading, off the $1.2486 it reached earlier in the day, but up from $1.2436 late Thursday.

The dollar fell against the British pound, which rose to $1.8159 from $1.8093 the night before. The dollar also slipped to 109.38 Japanese yen from 109.83 Thursday, amid optimism that the Japanese economy and stock markets are strengthening; 1.2465 Swiss francs, down from 1.2474; and 1.1955 Canadian dollars, down from 1.2012.
