KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) - A former school superintendent who stole money from his northwest Missouri district to feed his gambling habit was sentenced Wednesday to three years and six months in prison.
Ronnie Gene DeShon, 51, pleaded guilty in March to program fraud, admitting he embezzled $854,699 from the tiny Pattonsburg School District between 2000 and 2004.
DeShon told the court he lost the money at dog and horse tracks and at sports books in Las Vegas. The hearing drew a crowd of about 30 school district employees, students and others.
