ZURICH, Switzerland (AP) - Swiss Reinsurance made a surprise announcement Thursday that Jacques Aigrain would succeed John Coomber as chief executive beginning Jan. 1 as part of an ongoing restructuring at the world's second-largest reinsurance company.
The company also reported a 6 percent drop in net profit for the first half of 2005.
Analysts said the timing of the management change came as a surprise, although the 51-year-old Aigrain, Coomber's deputy executive officer, was widely expected to become CEO eventually. Coomber has been in the post since Jan. 1, 2003.
