Japanese Stocks Rise; Dollar Down vs. Yen

TOKYO (AP) - Japanese stocks rose Friday following gains in New York on Thursday as traders shrugged off government inflation data. The dollar declined against the yen.

The Nikkei 225 index closed at 12,439.48 points on the Tokyo Stock Exchange on Friday, up 34.32 points, or 0.28 percent, from Thursday. The index lost 97.10 points, or 0.78 percent, Thursday.

The broader TOPIX, which includes all issues on the exchange's first section, climbed 4.40 points, or 0.35 percent, to 1,272.46. It fell 7.55 points, or 0.59 percent, Thursday.
