ADDIS ABABA, Ethiopia (AP) - Ethiopia's prime minister on Monday dismissed a European Union report critical of his nation's parliamentary elections as a "pack of lies" and said it could affect relations with the bloc.
The EU's chief election observer, Ana Gomes, on Thursday said key aspects of Ethiopia's May 15 parliamentary elections won by the Prime Minister Meles Zenawi's party failed to meet international standards. She reported widespread abuses with opposition members arrested and witnesses to election violations intimidated.
On Monday, Meles said the EU report "in my view shows that the mission has turned out to be something worse than a farce."
