SYDNEY, Australia (AP) - A government inquiry into a surgeon linked to the deaths of 88 patients at a rural Australian hospital was thrown into doubt Thursday when a court ruled the panel's head may be biased against two health officials.
The inquiry is investigating how surgeon Jayant Patel nicknamed "Dr. Death" by his colleagues was allowed to practice medicine in Australia despite a 20-year history of botched operations in the United States.
The two administrators at the hospital where Patel practiced for two years applied in July to Queensland state's Supreme Court to have the panel's commissioner Tony Morris removed because of bias.
