BERLIN (AP) - The U.S. dollar fell Thursday against the euro, which broke the $1.24 mark as the European Central Bank refrained from cutting interest rates amid slow economic growth, and as worries persisted about higher oil prices in the wake of devastation from Hurricane Katrina.
The euro bought $1.2401 in afternoon European trading, up from $1.2325 in New York the night before.
The dollar was also down against other major currencies, dipping slightly against the Japanese yen to buy 110.49 yen from 110.71 on Wednesday, and with the British pound rising to $1.8158 from $1.8016 in New York.
