BEIJING (AP) - Chinese President Hu Jintao on Saturday postponed his official visit to Washington next week due to Hurricane Katrina, but he and President Bush planned to meet on the sidelines of the U.N. General Assembly later this month.
Hu talked Saturday with Bush and the two leaders agreed to the postponement "due to the special condition faced with the U.S. government in handling with the serious disaster caused by Hurricane Katrina," the official Xinhua News Agency reported.
The two-sentence dispatch didn't say whether the two leaders agreed on a new date for the official visit to Washington. Hu was to have met Bush on Wednesday at the White House.
