NUKU'ALOFA, Tonga (AP) - More than 10,000 Tongans marched through their capital city Tuesday demanding increased democracy in this South Pacific nation ruled by an autocratic king.
Observers said it was the biggest march in support of reform ever staged in the kingdom.
The peaceful protest came as the king returned Tuesday from a monthlong health check in New Zealand. Just two days earlier, the nation's 3,000 public servants agreed to end a seven-week strike that had paralyzed education, hospital and other government services.
