AUSTIN, Texas (AP) - Gov. Rick Perry signed into law Wednesday a bill that will make it easier for phone companies to offer advanced interactive television services, potentially posing stiff competition for cable companies.
Perry said the measure will spark new technology investments and create greater competition.
The bill will let phone companies get TV franchises directly from the state, avoiding the need to obtain licenses separately from municipalities, as cable companies have had to do.
