LOS ANGELES (AP) - Jerry Lewis was honored Sunday with the television academy's prestigious Governors Award for his decades of work on behalf of charity.
He received the tribute at the Creative Arts Primetime Emmy Awards, which recognize technical and other achievements for the 2004-05 television season. The ceremony preceded next week's main Emmy awards.
Lewis, 79, held his 40th Labor Day telethon earlier this month to raise money for the Muscular Dystrophy Association. In accepting his award, he said he wanted to correct the idea that his years of service have been selfless.
