BERLIN (AP) - The dollar rose against the 12-nation euro on Monday as Germany Europe's largest economy entered the last week before a national election with an outcome that was uncertain.
The euro fell to $1.2281 in late trading in New York from $1.2420 at the end of the day Friday. The British pound fell to $1.8190 from $1.8392 on Friday.
The dollar rose against the Japanese yen after a landslide victory by the Japan's ruling party in weekend elections gave Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi a mandate to push through economic reforms. The dollar climbed to 110.16 yen in afternoon New York trading from 109.73 yen late Friday. The dollar also rose to 1.2580 Swiss francs from 1.2438, and to 1.1857 Canadian dollars from 1.1764.
