DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (AP) - Reigning Busch Series champion Martin Truex Jr. was penalized $10,000 and 25 points by NASCAR on Tuesday for using an obscene gesture during last week's race.
The punishment tightens Truex's hold on the Busch points lead he now holds just a 69-point advantage over Clint Bowyer with seven races left this season.
Truex was side-by-side with Mike Wallace late in Friday night's race at Richmond International Raceway when Wallace pinched Truex into the wall. The contact tipped Truex's car onto its right side, where it traveled around part of the track on just two tires.
