NEW YORK (AP) - Staying focused on their fight to oust Republican Mayor Michael Bloomberg, Democrats lined up behind the winner of the mayoral primary Wednesday after the second-place finisher conceded.
Fernando Ferrer was a fraction of a point away from the 40 percent he needed to avoid a runoff against Anthony Weiner, a congressman representing Brooklyn and Queens.
But Weiner dropped out and endorsed Ferrer, saying the party should not waste time and money as it seeks to unseat Bloomberg a media mogul with a $5 billion personal fortune and considerable support from Democrats.
