WELLINGTON, New Zealand (AP) - New Zealanders will vote Saturday in an election that could lead to the scrapping of the nation's 20-year-old nuclear-free policy and an improvement in the country's relations with the United States.
Labor Prime Minister Helen Clark is seeking to become the first New Zealander since World War II to win three straight elections, while her main opponent, former central bank governor Don Brash, is bidding for the premiership after less than three years in parliament.
Polls show the race is too close to call, meaning both Clark and Brash will have to negotiate for support from minor parties if they are to form a government, a process which could take days or even weeks.
