Phillies' Season Comes Up Just a Tad Short

(AP Photo/Nick Wass)PHILADELPHIA (AP) - A meaningful game in October for the Philadelphia Phillies only meant they stayed in contention until the final day of the regular season.

For the 12th straight year and 21st time in 22 seasons, the Phillies missed the playoffs. This time, however, Philadelphia tantalized its fans, falling just one victory short of tying Houston for the NL wild-card spot and forcing a one-game playoff.

While the Astros prepared to meet Atlanta in a first-round matchup, the Phillies again started their vacation early.
