Ivan Fischer Named Guest Conductor

WASHINGTON (AP) - Ivan Fischer, founder of the Budapest Festival Orchestra, has been named principal guest conductor of the National Symphony Orchestra.

Fischer will lead the Washington group for two weeks in the 2006-2007 season and for at least three weeks in each of the next two seasons.

A former director of the Opera National in Lyons, France, Fischer served as principal guest conductor of the Cincinnati Symphony for seven years. During the current season he has led orchestras in Rome, Amsterdam, Berlin, Munich, and Los Angeles and toured Asia and Europe with his Budapest orchestra.
