Sprint Nextel Files Patent Suit

RESTON, Va. (AP) - Sprint Nextel Corp. filed a patent infringement lawsuit against two Internet telephone companies, alleging they infringed seven of its patents.

Reston-based Sprint Nextel Tuesday said it had sued Vonage Holdings Corp., theglobe.com Inc., and theglobe.com's Voiceglo Holdings Inc. unit.

Sprint Nextel said its patents cover technologies that enable the delivery of voice and data divided into digital "packets," which is the way the data is carried on the Internet. It is also the principle behind Internet telephony, also known as voice over Internet Protocol, or VoIP.
