SAN JOSE, Costa Rica (AP) - An airliner carrying the U.S. national soccer team to Costa Rica for a World Cup qualifier Saturday was diverted to Panama on Thursday night because of low fog in the Costa Rican capital, airport officials said.
Two other afternoon flights from the United States also were diverted.
Workers at the San Jose hotel where the team was scheduled to stay removed place settings for a scheduled dinner and said they had been told to expect players to arrive Friday morning.
