HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) - Moses Kemboi of Kenya overcame driving rain and blustery winds to set a course record while winning the Greater Hartford Marathon on Saturday.
Kemboi finished in 2 hours, 16 minutes, 34 seconds 18 seconds faster than the previous mark set by compatriot Joseph Nderitu in 2002.
Kemboi, 27, broke open a pack of four runners in the 14th mile and ran alone the rest of the way. Araya Haregot of Ethiopia, who won the 2003 Greater Hartford half-marathon, finished second in 2:19:43 and Abraham Assafa of Ethiopia third (2:19:55).
