Flight Lands at Dulles After Smoke Report

Saturday, October 08, 2005 8:45:09 PM

CHANTILLY, Va. (AP) - An airliner en route from New York City to Miami made a precautionary landing at Washington Dulles International Airport on Saturday night after smoke was reported aboard, an airport spokesman said.

American Airlines Flight 1393 landed safely in early evening and taxied under its own power, said Rob Yingling, a spokesman for the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority. He said the passengers were all in good health.

An airline spokesman, Tim Wagner, chacterized the problem as an electrical odor, rather than smoke, detected in the cabin. He said the plane, which carried 102 passengers, two pilots and four flight attendants, was taken out of service and a replacement was sent to Dulles.
