UNITED NATIONS (AP) - The U.N. Security Council condemned the increase in the flow of weapons and ammunition into Somalia in violation of a U.N. arms embargo and said Friday it would consider specific actions to improve compliance.
In a resolution adopted unanimously, the council authorized Secretary-General Kofi Annan to re-establish a monitoring group for six months to continue investigating violations of the embargo and compile an updated list of people and organizations selling arms.
Somalia has been divided into fiefdoms, ruled by rival warlords since 1991, when President Siad Barre was ousted.
