Saab Gets $100 Million Order From Boeing

Monday, October 17, 2005 10:57:18 AM

STOCKHOLM, Sweden (AP) - Swedish aerospace and defense company Saab AB said Monday it has signed a contract worth at least 800 million kronor ($100 million) with Boeing Co. to design and produce doors for Boeing's 787 Dreamliner jet.

The contract is for an initial order of cargo doors and access doors for 200 planes, said Pontus Kallen, head of Saab Aerostructures. He said the contract may be extended to include up to 3,000 Dreamliners over the next 15 years, pushing the order's worth to between 2 billion and 10 billion kronor ($255 million to $1.3 billion).

The Boeing 787 Dreamliner, which can carry up to 296 passengers, is currently being developed and the first deliveries are due in 2008. Saab's first delivery of cargo doors for the aircraft will be in 2007.
