Three Companies Bid for Ukrainian Mill

Monday, October 17, 2005 12:51:36 PM

KIEV, Ukraine (AP) - Three companies have submitted applications to participate in next week's auction of Ukraine's biggest steel mill, the State Property Fund said Monday as the deadline to participate expired.

The number is lower than government officials had expected for what was being billed as the biggest ever privatization auction in this ex-Soviet republic.

Kryvorizhstal goes under the hammer next Monday with a starting price tag of $2 billion, well above the $800 million paid last year by a consortium partly owned by former President Leonid Kuchma's son-in-law.
