PAMPA, Texas (AP) - This small agricultural community in the Texas Panhandle is typically a quiet place, with the upcoming harvest or latest high school football game often the talk of the town's 18,000 residents.
But that hasn't been the case the past few weeks with residents fearful and speculation swirling since a farmer, his pregnant wife and her 14-year-old son were killed in their remote farmhouse.
"They're definitely scared and keeping their guns loaded," said David Haynes, who works at the Gray-Roberts County Farm Bureau and deals with ranchers and farmers in the area. "If you live in a big city, you expect a shooting like this. Not out here."
