VEVEY, Switzerland (AP) - Nestle SA, the world's biggest food and drink company, said Thursday that sales for the first nine months of the year rose 4.8 percent on strength in all its main units. Its shares rose nearly 4 percent.
The company said sales came to 67.7 billion Swiss francs ($52.3 billion), up from 64.6 billion francs during the year-earlier period.
"The acceleration in our core food and beverage operations was broad-based and allows me to reconfirm that we will deliver 5 percent to 6 percent organic growth for 2005," said Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Peter Brabeck-Letmathe. Organic growth, or growth in the company without acquisitions, for the January to September period was 5.8 percent.
