TOKYO (AP) - Japanese stocks eked out gains Friday, rising for a second day, with some investors buying stocks that had fallen in the market's recent slide. The dollar weakened against the yen and euro.
The Nikkei 225 index rose 9.49 points, 0.07 percent, to finish at 13,199.95 on the Tokyo Stock Exchange. The broader TOPIX index, which includes all issues on the exchange's first section, added 1.42 points, or 0.10 percent, to 1,385.37.
For much of Friday's trading, the Nikkei index stayed in negative territory following an overnight drop on Wall Street before investors bought select issues toward the closing bell, including airline stocks. Losers led gainers 802 to 745.
