LONDON (AP) - Former Manchester United star George Best was taken off a ventilator Sunday and was recognizing people in what his doctor called "lots of improvement."
The 59-year-old Best is trying to recover from life-threatening infections that have spread to his kidneys and other organs. He has been in intensive care for a month.
"He's a little better and he's now off the ventilator, which is very good news," his physician, Dr. Roger Williams, said outside Cromwell Hospital. "He's recognizing people. He's better in that respect, but please don't run away with thinking he's fantastic because there's still a long way to go."
