OLYMPIA, Wash. (AP) - Smokers might have to walk down the block to light up if Washington voters approve one of the most restrictive statewide bans on indoor public smoking in the country.
Initiative 901 on Tuesday's ballot would create a 25-foot smoke-free zone near building entrances and exits, windows or ventilation intakes. It would effectively bar smoking on some outdoor patios a difficult prospect in this rain-soaked region.
"We're not out in the country," said Brian Honda, owner of the historic Triangle Pub in Seattle, which occupies a narrow triangular block near the city's baseball and football stadiums. "Break out the tape measure, and 25 feet brings you out into the street."
