DETROIT (AP) - Incumbent Kwame Kilpatrick gained ground on front-runner Freman Hendrix as the Detroit mayoral election neared, according to a poll published Friday.
The telephone poll of 402 likely voters, conducted Sunday through Wednesday, found 49 percent said they backed Hendrix, former deputy mayor who is challenging Kilpatrick. Thirty-nine percent said they backed the mayor, who is seeking a second term, and 12 percent said they were undecided.
The poll by EPIC/MRA of Lansing, conducted for WXYZ-TV in Detroit, had a margin of error of 5 percentage points.
