ATLANTA (AP) - Bob Schaeffer was hired by the Atlanta Braves on Friday as a special assistant to general manager John Schuerholz.
The 61-year-old Schaeffer was a bench coach for the Kansas City Royals from 2002-05 after spending 1999-2001 as special assistant with the Baltimore Orioles. He was director of player development for the Boston Red Sox from 1994-98.
The Braves also hired Rene Francisco as director of international scouting and Tom Shields as assistant field coordinator.
