AUSTIN, Texas (AP) - One down, two more to go in the Texas Longhorns' chase for those elusive championships. The second-ranked Longhorns cleared one significant hurdle Saturday with their 66-14 romp over Kansas. Even with a game at rival Texas A&M still to play the day after Thanksgiving, the victory clinched the Big 12 South Division title and sends the Longhorns to the conference championship game against the North Division champ Dec. 3 in Houston.
While Texas was a heavy favorite, the win was still reason to celebrate for a team that hasn't won the Big 12 title since 1996. Texas won the South Division in 1999 and 2001 under coach Mack Brown but lost both times in the conference championship game.
"This was huge," said senior defensive tackle Rod Wright, who skipped a chance to leave school for the NFL after his junior season.
