SHANGHAI, China (AP) - Second-seeded Rafael Nadal withdrew from the Tennis Masters Cup on Monday less than two hours before his opening match, the latest high-profile player to exit the season-ending tournament.
Nadal pulled out with an injured left foot. The 19-year-old Spaniard had been due to play Gaston Gaudio of Argentina in a round-robin match in the Gold Group.
Andy Roddick and Marat Safin withdrew before the tournament because of injuries and Australia's Lleyton Hewitt opted out, deciding to stay in Sydney with his wife, Rebecca Cartwright, who is expecting the couple's first child within two weeks.
