By MUJTABA ALI AHMAD

Villagers shout anti Indian army slogans during the funeral of two teenagers in Palhalan, about 30 kilometers (19 miles) north of Srinagar, India, Sunday, Nov. 13, 2005. The teenage boys died when they were caught in crossfire between army soldiers and a suspected Islamic rebel Sunday. The rebel was also killed in the gunfight. (AP Photo/Mukhtar Khan)SRINAGAR, India (AP) - A gunbattle erupted in the main business district of Indian Kashmir's capital Monday after Muslim militants attacked a police compound, killing two civilians and two soldiers and injuring six civilians, officials said.

The attack in Lal Chowk of Srinagar, the city's busiest commercial area, provoked heavy retaliation from security forces, forcing hundreds of people to run and take shelter inside buildings as shopkeepers shuttered their stores, witnesses said.

The gunfight went on for more than hour before subsiding, leaving scores of people trapped in buildings, shops and hotels.
