LAGUNA BEACH, Calif. (AP) - The federal government will share repair costs to public areas of Laguna Beach damaged by a massive mudslide in June after local officials appealed an earlier decision denying federal aid, Sen. Dianne Feinstein said.
Laguna Beach City officials estimate the landslide caused $15 million in damage to public facilities. Seventeen multimillion dollar homes were destroyed and five people were injured.
Feinstein, D-California, said Monday the Federal Emergency Management Agency would pay about 75 percent of the costs to repair public areas, leaving the rest to state and local governments.
