NEW YORK (AP) - Harper's Magazine has named Roger D. Hodge, who started there as an intern in 1996, to replace departing editor Lewis Lapham, publisher John R. MacArthur announced Tuesday.
Hodge, 38, has been deputy editor of Harper's since November 2004. He edited the magazine's readings section from 1999 to 2003 and oversaw a radical redesign of its Web site, Harpers.org, in December 2003.
Lapham, 70, has been Harper's editor since 1976 with a hiatus from 1981 to 1983. He announced earlier this month that he would retire in the spring. He will continue to write his "Notebook" column and will remain with the magazine under the title of editor emeritus.
