BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) - Buffalo Sabres forward J.P. Dumont has been diagnosed with a sports hernia that could require surgery and cost him a large portion of this season.
Coach Lindy Ruff said the decision on surgery hasn't been made, and that Dumont might get another opinion.
Two doctors have already examined Dumont, whose ailment originally was diagnosed as an abdominal injury. Diagnoses sometimes can be tricky because, unlike more common hernias, there's not always a visible bulge in the leg or groin area.
