COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - With a week off, the Columbus Blue Jackets assigned seven players to the Syracuse Crunch of the American Hockey League to keep them fresh.
Forwards Dan Fritsche, Steven Goertzen, Nikolai Zherdev, Geoff Platt and Joe Motzko were assigned to the Crunch along with defenseman Ole-Kristian Tollefsen and goaltender Pascal Leclaire.
"It's simply a situation with a week off, and with us not skating due to all of our bumps and bruises, we wanted to keep them playing," GM Doug MacLean said Friday. "We'll recall the guys again on Monday."
