Tanzanian Revolutionary Party presidential candidate Jakaya Kikwete cast his ballot in his home town of Chalinze 109km nort east of the Tanzanian capital Dar es Salaam Wednesday Dec. 14, 2005. Thousands lined up Wednesday for presidential and parliamentary elections that Tanzania's long-ruling Revolutionary Party was expected to win, despite voter concerns about corruption and the economy.(AP Photo/Khalfan Said)DAR ES SALAAM, Tanzania (AP) - The long-ruling Revolutionary Party was expected to sweep Tanzania's presidential and parliamentary elections Wednesday, although it likely will lose some seats because of voter anger over alleged corruption in one of the world's poorest countries.

Balloting went smoothly except for scattered violence on semiautonomous Zanzibar archipelago.

Revolutionary Party presidential candidate Jakaya Kikwete cast his ballot in the Coast Region accompanied by his wife and some of their eight children. He said he was "confident of victory by a wide margin," which would make him the nation's fourth president since its 1961 independence from Britain.
