UNITED NATIONS (AP) - The U.N. Security Council agreed Wednesday to Eritrea's demand to withdraw Americans, Canadians and Europeans from the peacekeeping mission that monitors the tense border with Ethiopia.
The Security Council and Secretary-General Kofi Annan promised a speedy review of the entire peacekeeping operation. Diplomats said one option will be to end it and send the nearly 3,300 civilian and military staff home.
The redeployment of about 180 Western military and civilian staff and Eritrea's restrictions on peacekeepers have raised fears of a reprise of the rivals' 1998-2000 war
