RIO DE JANEIRO, Brazil (AP) - Brazil's daily oil output hit a record 1.86 million barrels, with exceptional output from its offshore fields, the government oil company Petrobras said Tuesday.
Petrobras attributed Monday's record to the recovery of older fields in northern Brazil and the "exceptional performance" of offshore fields in the Campos Basin near Rio, especially the Barracuda and Caratinga fields.
The new record is 10.7 percent higher than the year's average daily output and 24.4 percent more than daily production in 2004, which was 1.493 million barrels, Petrobras said.
