Alcohol Sales Banned for Jets-Pats Game

Tuesday, December 20, 2005 4:50:22 PM

New York Jets quarterback Brooks Bollinger rolls out of the pocket in the first quarter against the Miami Dolphins during an NFL football game in Miami, Fla., Sunday, Dec. 18, 2005. When Bollinger threw incomplete on his final chance to lead the Jets to victory over the Dolphins, he felt like a failure again. Three times this season he had a chance to win a game in the closing minutes. Three times he could not get the job done. (AP Photo/Steve Mitchell)HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. (AP) - Alcohol won't be sold during Monday night's game between the Jets and Patriots at the Meadowlands in an attempt to quell rowdy fan behavior.

The ban comes after nine fans were arrested during the Jets-Saints game Nov. 27. One man was charged with stabbing two fans in a restroom, and a state trooper broke his leg while trying to eject a fan who reportedly threw a beer bottle.

Jets spokesman Ron Colangelo said Tuesday the ban was put in place to protect fans. The Jets and New Jersey Sports and Exposition Authority made the joint decision.
