NEW YORK (AP) - Lou Lamoriello gave it the old college try behind the New Jersey Devils' bench.
That's not a bad thing for the team's president and general manager, because it was at Providence College that Lamoriello made a name for himself.
Lamoriello stepped in as Devils coach on Monday after Larry Robinson surprisingly stepped down just 32 games into what has, so far, been a disappointing season. His first regular-season game ended with his first NHL victory, a 3-1 road win over the New York Rangers.
