 SYDNEY, Australia (AP) - A heart of red lights pulsed on Sydney's landmark Harbor Bridge on Saturday night as tens of thousands of people crowded around the harbor for a glimpse of spectacular fireworks shows ushering in 2006.
However, the message of love was accompanied by a huge police presence aimed at preventing a repeat of two nights of racial violence that erupted Dec. 11 in the city's southern beachside suburbs.
More than 1,700 police officers were on duty for the night and police helicopters and boats buzzed over and on the harbor.
