SYDNEY, Australia (AP) - The first tropical cyclone of Australia's storm season reached the country's northwest coast early Tuesday, cutting power to thousands of homes and forcing oil companies to shut down their offshore rigs.
Cyclone Clare had winds gusting to more than 115 mph that were expected to gradually ease during the day, the Bureau of Meteorology said.
Peter Cameron, head of emergency services for the Pilbara region, said no damage had been reported.
