KIRKLAND, Wash. (AP) - Running back Dan Doornink tried to avoid the thousands of fans who turned out at 3 a.m. to greet the Seattle Seahawks following their playoff upset of Miami. He never had a chance.
"I tried to sneak around the crowd, but a kid recognized me," Doornink recalled about Seattle's playoff run following the 1983 season. "I ended up going behind a ticket counter and signed autographs until there was no one left. That was at 6 a.m."
It's been a long 22 seasons since the Seahawks last played in a conference championship. They lost to the Los Angeles Raiders 30-14 in their first and only attempt at reaching the Super Bowl. The drought ends Sunday when Seattle hosts Carolina in the NFC championship, the first time the title game will be played on the Seahawks' home field.
