WASHINGTON (AP) - Securities and Exchange Commission Chairman Christopher Cox had surgery Monday to remove a tumor and is expected to remain in the hospital for a few days, an agency spokesman said.
The SEC had announced Friday that Cox was to undergo surgery to remove a thymoma, a tumor on the thymus gland that regulates development of the immune system and is located in the chest above the heart. Thymomas are not always cancerous.
The SEC also had said Cox, 53, was expected to recover quickly and fully.
